Paul
Jorgensen has drawn since he was child. Trained as an architect,
he has used drawing as a way of observing and connecting
with places. He is interested in buildings as symbols and
cultural icons. Wineries often use their buildings as a trademark
on labels, reminding us that the wine cannot be separated
from the place. When you taste the wine, you experience the
place - its climate, physical environment, and history.
He
feels that in today's era of globalization, streaming media,
suburban sprawl and themed architecture, images of unique
places have relevance to daily life. After spending years
traveling to more than thirty countries for business and
pleasure, he enjoys wine, slow food, and a quiet life with
his wife in old Leawood.
"We
remember our experiences in relationship to the places
where
they occurred. Images of those places remind us of our experiences.
Drawings are suggestive, allowing the viewer to supply
the memory
or meaning. A drawing starts a process which the viewer finishes."
Below
are samples of Paul's work that will be displayed in the Art
