"PrimaVera
- A Group Show"
"PrimaVera"
displays current art works by three up-and-coming young female
artists. "PrimaVera" was named not only because the
show takes place in spring, but it also reflects the time in each
of the artists’ lives. In May, the artists will all graduate with
their B.F.A.’s and, in a way, begin their artistic careers.
The
show is comprised of multiple techniques in printmaking that include
woodcuts, monotypes, transfers, and silkscreen. The work is figurative,
abstract, and floral. Although it is quite different, there is
a quiet elegance in each piece, perhaps brought on by a similar
color palette, or because the work is produced by female artists.
- Heather
Marton
Heather
is currently working toward her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree
in printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute. She is in
her last semester, working on her thesis show, “External Layers”,
that is to open in May at the Destination Gallery in Kansas
City, MO.
Heather’s
work in the past has always regarded the female figure and
explored the representation of the female in society. She
has explored a more personal side since her residency, in
what she refers to as “body prints”, and continues to examine
this through various print processes. Her work involves monotypes,
silkscreen, transfers, woodblock, digital, and hand-painted
images, often built up of layer upon layer of multimedia processes.
Since
the beginning of her art career, Heather has been in various
shows throughout the United States. Upcoming shows include
the B.F.A. show at the Art Space, “External Layers” at the
Destination Gallery, and of course, “PrimaVera” at Wines by
Jennifer.
Raised
in Boca Raton, FL, Heather currently resides in Kansas City,
MO.
- Kimberly
Lowery
Kimberly
is in her last semester working toward her Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree at the Kansas City Art Institute in Printmaking.
She is currently focused on a body of work that entails the
story of Adam and Eve for her thesis show.
Her
work in the past has been a sexually charged look into the female
role in society. However, over the last year or so, she has
taken on a softer, quieter approach to her figurative work.
Kimberly works mainly in reductive woodcuts and silkscreen.
Her work can be said to have both a traditional and contemporary
feel.
Kimberly
has shown both locally and nationally. She currently has work
in Milwaukee at the Social, at Wines by Jennifer, and at the
Art Space Printmaking Gallery at the Kansas City Art Institute.
“I
am really excited to have the chance to put this show together.
I have studied with Heather and Wendi for three years and
I think it is an opportunity before we each go our separate
ways to have one last look at where each of us has evolved
in our work.”
Born
in Sheboygan, WI, she currently lives in Kansas City, MO.
- Wendi
Dibbern
Wendi
is in her third year at the Kansas City Art Institute, where
she is majoring printmaking, leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts
at the completion of her senior year.
Wendi’s
current work is produced in her private studio on campus. She
uses a variety of techniques in her artwork, including etching,
woodblocks and collagraphs. She is also working three dimensionally
with print mediums.
She
has received numerous awards for her work, including the Gold
Key from The Scholastic Art & Writing Competition, as well
as numerous awards and recognitions in school-sponsored exhibits
in Kansas. Although her work resides mostly in private collections,
twelve of her prints were selected to become part of the Amity
Foundation Collection. Her work can also be viewed at the Palette
& Chisel Gallery in Galena, Illinois, as well as Wines by
Jennifer.
Born
in Atchison, Kansas, Wendi now makes her home in Kansas City,
MO and Leavenworth, KS.
