Lake
Breeze is one of Australia's most awarded boutique
wineries, achieving an extraordinary level of success
in Australian Wine Shows, including 16 trophies and
51 gold medals since 1994.
The
2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied style, using
fruit produced from 35-year old vines on the Follett
family vineyard. Traditional open fermentation was
employed with maceration times varying between 7
- 21 days. The wine was matured in French and American
oak barriques for 20 months prior to bottling, with
minimal filtration.
It displays a complex array of mint, blackcurrant
and cedary oak aromas. These characters are also
reflected on the palate, which has silky texture
and a wonderfully soft tannin finish. This wine has
a cellaring potential of 10 years.
The
past 12 vintages of Lake Breeze Cabernet Sauvignon
have won
three trophies, 20 gold medals and numerous other
awards and notoriety, including these for
the 2003 vintage:
94/100
James Halliday's 2007 Wine Companion: “Deep
color and good hue; abundant blackcurrant
fruit supported by fine but positive tannins
and oak; a lovely wine.” Drink 2015.
GOLD
MEDAL, WINEWISE, August 2006: “A
refined, well-balanced Cabernet with very good
blackcurrant fruit and an elegance befitting
a wine from a cooler region. It's long on the
finish and very satisfying. Excellent value.”
Langhorne
Creek is one of Australia's oldest and fastest-growing
wine grape districts.
Vineyards were first planted in the 1860's at
Langhorne Creek on the banks of the Bremer River.
The region
rests between the Adelaide Hills and Lake Alexandrina,
only a one hour drive from Adelaide.
Langhorne
Creek is renowned for its full-bodied red wines.
The grapes have an intense quality due to
the location and unique natural influences. Cool
afternoon breezes from Lake Alexandrina help
to create a surprisingly cool climate, which allows
for a longer,
more even ripening period. This is coupled with
deep, rich alluvial soil, which is deposited by
the unique
annual flooding of the Bremer River.

The
Lake Breeze winemaker/manager Greg Follett, and
proprietors Ken and Marlene Follett have visited
us at Wines
by Jennifer in the past and we look forward to
seeing them again soon to learn about all the new
happenings at Lake Breeze!
