Jose Maria Garcia and Milagros Figuero are a vine-growing
couple who have devoted their entire lives to looking
after their vines. They are proud heirs to a culture
that has been handed down through several generations.
Each
day is filled with care of more than 45 hectares
of vines, over half of which were carefully and meticulously
farmed by their ancestors. Some of the vines still
producing grapes today date back to the 1930's. The
Tempranillo grapes used in this wine come from 10-20
year-old vines.
The
wine has an intense, deep crimson color. The initial
aromas are dominated by new oak,
with hints of toast on a spicy background. Ripe
blackberries, raspberries and cranberries lurk
just beneath the
wood, and move through to the palate, which also
shows moderate
acidity, sweet tannins and the characteristically
velvety texture of the Tempranillo grape.
The
wine is aged for four months in new oak barrels
(85% American and 15% French).
It then sees an additional four months of aging
in the bottle before leaving the cellar.
This
rounded wine
combines smoothness, elegance and structure,
down to a lingering finish. Give this wine another
1-2 years
and drink it for an additional 8-10 years.
Pair
with steak, roasts, prime rib, lamb, hearty pork
dishes and
hard cheeses.
