Spencer
Roloson Winery produces outstanding wines from the
volcanic California hillsides of the St.
Helena and Clear Lake areas.
Sam
Spencer and Wendy Roloson came together to create
Spencer Roloson, combining Sam’s global winemaking
experiences and Wendy’s knowledge of marketing & branding.
Focusing on Rhone and Spanish varietals, they
specialize in single vineyard estate bottlings
of Syrah, Viognier
and Tempranillo, with balanced,
organic farming and a sensitivity to the vineyards
as key goals.
The
La Herradura Vineyard is a gem tucked into
the lower slopes of Howell Mountain in the Conn
Valley. In
1999, this vineyard was planted on family
land with Côte Rôtie
selections. The soils are thin, gravelly, clay
loams on hillside that averages 25% slopes.
Yields are naturally very low in such thin
and inhospitable
soils, producing loose clusters with small
berries and very thick skins.
This
wine shows tremendous complexity; dense and rich
with crushed plum, blackberry,
sage and mineral notes
supported by sweet and finely grained tannin. The
powerful finish is a true 60-second experience.

Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Glorious
notes of bacon fat, roasted meat, smoke,
blackberries, and black currants
emerge from the dark ruby/purple-colored 2004 Syrah La Herradura
Vineyard. This complex,
sexy, lush, opulent, enticing Syrah can
be drunk now or cellared for 4-5 years."
