Tom
and Anne-Marie Hedges began Hedges Cellars in 1987.
By keeping a narrow focus on a few varieties and a
few wines, Hedges has become a landmark winery in Washington
State.
The winery has historically focused
on only a few wines and limited grape varieties, with
each wine a blend that reflects the natural relationship
between topography, soil, microclimate, and those specific
varietals.
In
order to maintain quality control, the Hedges began
securing grapes from some of the finest
vineyards in the state, including
Red Mountain, a sub-growing region of the Columbia
Valley which is internationally recognized as producing
distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc,
and Syrah. Red Mountain's southwestern facing slope and
long, warm days during the growing season ensure
even ripening, while cool nights allow the plants
to maintain acidity. The resulting fruit produces
wines with deep color, intensity, focus and balance
which many say is unrivaled in the United States.
“Three
Vineyards” is a classic Red
Mountain wine showing deep, dense color, firm yet supple
tannins, and well defined acidity. It
is a blend of fruit from three estate vineyards:
Hedges Estate Vineyard, Bel'Villa Vineyard, and Red
Mountain Vineyard.
Always
a majority blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot,
this wine is suitable for drinking
upon release but will also reward those with the
patience to age it.
