Estate
grown and bottled, this 100% Malbec is made of selected
grapes hand-picked from old vines planted in 1919
in their vineyard located 3000 feet above sea level.
Production
was
limited to 5000 pounds/acre.
The
grapes were fermented for 15 days in small, temperature-controlled
stainless steel
tanks. The wine was aged in French and American
oak for 12 months and in bottles
for
an
additional
six
months. The
result is a huge wine with fruity aroma, berry
flavors, firm structure, and a long finish. It is
a stunning example of a full-bodied Mendoza Malbec.
This
wine is an excellent complement to strong cheeses,
roast or grilled meats, tuna, salmon, and chocolate.
It is advisable to open 30 minutes prior to serving
to allow the wine to fully aerate.
Mendoza
is Argentina’s largest and most important wine region,
responsible for over 80% of total production in the
country. Tourism has followed, as Mendoza is now
among Argentina's top vacation destinations.
It
is
recognized as the world's premier location for
the Malbec grape, and is made up of
several small production
areas
within Lujan de Cuyo and Vistaflores and Tupungato
in the
Uco Valley. The soils are
sandy and alluvial, while the
climate is semi-desert: hot and dry, with cold nights,
although the winters are wetter. It should be noted,
however, that each region has its own
characteristic terruño,
determined by its micro-climate and the components
of its
soil.
