Salvador
Renteria came from Mexico in 1962 to work at Sterling
Vineyards as a field laborer;
his genius for agriculture allowed him to rise through
the ranks and establish, in 1987, one of the valley’s
most respected vineyard management companies. Now, his
son Oscar runs Renteria Vineyard Management
and makes
wine under
his family’s Salva Tierra
and Tres Perlas labels.
Salva Tierra translates as “salt
of the earth" in Spanish and is named after Oscar's
wife's family surname.
Working with select vineyards in Napa
Valley and Sonoma's Russian River, Renteria grows world
renowned grapes for clients that include William Selyem,
Robert Mondavi Winery, Caymus, Rombauer and Duckhorn.
The 2006 Salva Tierra Cabernet Sauvignon
is full of depth and complexity with typical Napa Valley
Cabernet characteristics. The aroma is very fruit forward
dominated by the blackberry notes, and underlying cassis
and anise. The mouthfeel is deep and rich and, while
approachable now, will reward careful cellaring.
