of ten “Fourth Growth” (Quatrièmes
Cru) properties from the official Bordeaux Wine
Classification of 1855, Château Branaire-Ducru
was once part of the neighboring Château
Beychevelle before it was broken up in the mid-17th
century to pay the debts of then-owner Bernard
Nogaret de la Valette.
Pure and classic St-Julien, this is a very elegant
wine, with a violet frame to the supple red currant,
blueberry and black cherry fruit flavors that mingle
with high-toned spice on the finish.
