Scaggs is renowned as one of America's preeminent
R&B artists, but is now earning respect in
a different but not disconnected field as a producer
of elegant and complex, Rhone-style red and rosé wines.
Production is tiny and highly selective – only
350 cases of this wine and 100 cases of rosé are
made each vintage.
Lending more than just his famous name, Boz is
hands-on in the vineyard and the winery in crafting
his estate wines. Certified organic in 2006, the
Scaggs Vineyard philosophy is to allow growing
conditions, varietals, and vintages to manifest
themselves within the wine.
Mt. Veeder Montage is a blend of 47% Grenache,
2% Mourvedre, 12% Syrah, and 9% Counoise. Complex
aromatics of lavender, sage, plum, spice, and potpourri
are followed by deeper notes of anise and red licorice.
Hints of boysenberry and pomegranate frame the
palate, followed by a firm tannic structure that
provides balance and length.
