After our visit last year to distinguished South
African producer Remhoogte Wine Estate, we were
determined to get our hands on their delicious
wines back home in the States. It took 16 long
months wrangling with importers and distributors,
but you are about to be rewarded by our perseverance!
The pinnacle of the entire Remhoogte range is
named to honor the family's great-grandfather,
Sir Thomas Cullinan, a pioneer of South Africa
after whom the Cullinan diamond is named. Discovered
in 1905, this 3,000 carat beauty remains the largest
diamond ever found, and now forms the center piece
of the British Crown jewels.
This “crown jewel” is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet
Sauvignon. Deep garnet in color, with fresh cherry
aromas laced with fynbos (a native Western Cape
shrub) and creamy toffee. The full, rich palate
is layered with hints of chocolate truffle and
dark berry fruit. The firm, well-integrated tannins
and classically dry finish result from maturation
for 22 months in 60% new 225L French oak barrels.
Serve now or over the next 10 years with the “Basque
Lamb Stew” from our Wines
by Jennifer Cookbook!
