American
Estates Wines’ proprietor George Galey conducted
an exhausting search across the cooler wine regions
of Australia for grapes capable of creating an elegant
and classic new world Pinot Noir that would sell
far below its price point. This wine is the result
of that search, reflecting George’s passion for classical
Pinot Noir from the New World.
The "3
Trees" depicted on our label are eucalyptus,
oak and Bunya pine: two indigenous trees of Australia
flanking the quintessential wine tree, oak. This
Pinot Noir is our “Bunya” wine. The tree’s nuts are
much revered by aboriginal tribes. Their harvest
time tradition brings feasting and ceremonies, and
any tribal hostilities are suspended.
The fruit
for this wine was sourced from several single vineyard
plots in the cooler parts of South Australia (Adelaide
Hills and Coonawarra) with a smaller lot from western
Victoria. These components were gently fermented
in separate lots, aged for eight months in a mix
of French oak and stainless steel tanks and blended
by highly respected Winemaker Steve Grimley.
The color
is bright crimson red, with bright red and dark fruit
aromas accented by spice box notes. The palate is
rich with ripe berry fruit, more spice and subtle
vanillin oak nuances, the mid-palate is supple, and
it finishes with balance, length and complexity.
