Below are the September, 2007 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

 

White Wine 2006 Varner "Foxglove" Chardonnay Edna Valley Central Coast, California   Edna Valley is located just south of San Luis Obispo in the Central Coast region of California. The winemakers for Foxglove, Jim and Bob Varner, source their grapes from several different area vineyards. Their modern style is meant to bring out the true terroir of the appellation. The wine sees very little oak, nor does it undergo malolactic fermentation. The result is Chardonnay with intense citrus fruitiness on the nose and the palate. It is reminiscent of a pure, but rich Chablis, with pure stony minerality, and packed with clean, crisp natural acidity. Foxglove is a perfect accompaniment for cheese, fruit and lighter meats. While the 2006 vintage is yet to be rated, the 2005 Foxglove Chardonnay received a score of 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Red Wine 2003 Quail Ridge Merlot Napa Valley, California   This award-winning Merlot comes from the heart of Napa Valley, America's most prestigious wine region. The wine has a rich ruby hue and well-ripened plum and blackberry aromas. It is soft, silky, and smooth, with medium-bodied tannins and bright cherry and raspberry flavors complemented by subtle hints of toasted oak. An outstanding partner for meats such as lamb and fruit-glazed pork or duck, the Quail Ridge Merlot also goes well with tomato-based dishes. An outstanding example of a New World Merlot, this wine garnered gold medals at the 2006 International Wine Competition, the 2006 Taster's Guild International Wine Judging, the 2006 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and the 2006 Jerry D. Mead New World International Wine Competition.
