Chardonnay/Riesling/Verdelho
Langhorne
Creek,
South Australia
Bleasdale’s
vineyards were founded in 1850 by Frank Potts, making
Bleasdale one of Australia's oldest family-owned wineries.
The
first vines, 30 acres in all, consisted primarily
of Shiraz
and Verdelho.
Bleasdale
today is owned and operated by fourth and fifth generation
members of the family, with Cabernet Sauvignon
and Malbec joining Shiraz and Verdelho as the principal
varietals.
This
is a crisp, fresh dry white wine displaying attractive
fruit salad aromas and tropical fruit flavors. The
blend is 64% Chardonnay, 23% Riesling, and 13% Verdelho.

Syrah/Carignane/Valdiguié
California

Palaterra
is modeled after the rich wines of the Southern
Rhone, Provence and the Languedoc. A blend of
32% Syrah, 35% Carignane, and 33% Valdiguié,
the
flavor is ripe and delicious with gnarly old-vine
character from the 65 year-old Carignane and 50 year-old
Valdigué vines. The Syrah adds texture and
weight to the Palaterra, tying the elements together
with forward
fruit and lithe tannins.

Cotes du Rhone-like offering, the 2003
Palaterra is a good value. This Rhone Ranger
blend's
seductive berry fruit, licorice, pepper,
and herb-scented nose is followed by a
seriously
endowed red with no hard edges, a charming,
lush mid-palate, a nicely layered texture,
and excellent purity as well as depth.
It should blend beautifully with Mediterranean
dishes
over the next 3-4 years."
