Below are the February, 2008 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

 

White Wine Il Conte d'Alba Moscato d'Asti, Italy, NV Moscato d'Asti is a DOCG wine produced mainly in the districts of Asti and in smaller nearby regions in the districts of Alessandria and Cuneo. Produced from the Moscato Bianco grape, the wine is sweet and low in alcohol, and often enjoyed with dessert. A related but sparkling wine, Asti or Asti Spumante, is produced in the same area from the same grape. The wine is straw or golden bright yellow in color, with fragrant aromas typical of the Moscato d'Asti grape. The palate is soft, lively, and long lasting, with fragrant touches of flowers (elderflower, acacia), fruit (apricot and peaches) and aromatic herbs (sage).

Red Wine 2004 Kenneth Volk Merlot Paso Robles, California   The Paso Robles AVA was formed in 1983 and is situated roughly in the center of the Central Coast, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The entire region encompasses more than 650,000 acres. The winemaker has a longstanding interest in and affinity for Bordeaux varieties from Paso Robles. Templeton and western portions of Paso Robles have consistently proven among California's best areas for growing Merlot - they've been Kenneth Volk's preferred areas from the start - true Merlot, with plum, berry, fig and mocha characters, and the true richness of the variety. This dark Merlot has aromas of anise seed, ripe berry, olive, and cigar box. On the palate, the wine is tightly structured with moderately firm, persistent tannins. Prior to bottling, 13% Cabernet Franc was added to lift the aromatics and firm the structure of the wine. Enjoy this wine with grilled or lightly smoked foods, barbequed meats, and braised root vegetables.
