Montinore Estate Gewürztraminer
Willamette
Valley, Oregon
Montinore
Estate is a family-owned and -operated winery in the
northern Willamette Valley
that produces Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer
and Müller-Thurgau using only their own estate-grown
grapes.
All
230 acres of these grapes are farmed
using
the
strict methods of biodynamic farming. This means
that instead of applying chemical pesticides and
herbicides, you might find them spraying chamomile
or diluted milk on the grapes. Yep, sounds crazy,
but it consistently produces some of the best fruit
we’ve tasted. And to make sure the vines have the
richest, healthiest soil possible, they are interplanted
with nitrogen-rich cover crops and the skins,
seeds and clippings are returned to the soil each
spring as compost.
Straw
gold color introduces an intense aroma of rose petal,
lychee and grapefruit with hints of orange rind. On
the palate, the wine bursts with rose and lychee
flavors evolving to rich pink grapefruit and mandarin
orange.
The finish
is dry leaving the impression of fresh citrus and rose
petals.
This
off dry white pairs beautifully with pork, creamy cheeses
and Thai food.

York
Creek Vineyards "Cuvee
One"
Spring
Mountain District, Napa Valley, CA
York
Creek Vineyards runs up and over the crest of the
mountains
to the west of the town of St. Helena,
in a lush and beautiful area long known as "Spring
Mountain." Wine grapes have been grown here for
more than one hundred years, and the winery has
vines in both Napa and Sonoma counties. At least twenty-four
tree
species are native here and are depicted on the classic
label.
York
Creek is both an urban winery and, in its unique
way, an estate winery. All the grapes
are grown on the York Creek estate in Napa Valley,
but all the wine is made in downtown San Francisco,
in a building across the street from Anchor Brewing.
Don't let the lack of vintage and
varietal fool you, this is a wonderful, rich red wine,
perfect for hamburgers or other rich food. It is predominantly
Cabernet Sauvignon, and it shows in the taste, but
also contains several other varieties such as
Merlot and even some Port grapes.
