The
Princes of Hesse dynasty is one of the oldest aristocratic

back some 800 years.
The family’s vision is to help re-establish Rheingau
Riesling as one of the world’s noble grapes and wines,
and to that end the estate focuses on Riesling only.
The
Prinz von Hessen wine estate is situated on the eastern
edge of Johannisberg, near Wiesbaden, in the
Rheingau. The estate has holdings in some of the
best vineyards in the Rheingau, with 2/3 of their
vines planted on "Erstes Gewachs" (First Growth) sites.
It is the very heart of fine German wine production,
with the ancient Schloss Johannisberg (where Riesling
was first planted in 1720) just behind the Winkeler Jesuitgarten
vineyard.
The
viticulture in the Rheingau – unlike any other region
of the world
– is associated with Riesling, and nearly 80% of the
Rheingau’s cultivated vineyards (7,630 acres) are
planted
with Riesling.
The Rheingau is home to 7.3% of the world’s Riesling
vineyards.
Partially
due to the warmth of the region, the
wine is drier than those typically found in the Mosel;
steely and minerally with perfumed fruit and perfect
balance between the high acidity and small levels of
residual sugar. Full and ripe, with a good mouthfeel
and alcohol levels higher than some German
wines,
but at 11.5%, it is hardly heavy.
Food-friendly,
aromatic and fine, H Riesling is an elegant
expression of one of the world's greatest grapes.

Pali
stands for Palisades and
is owned by a group of 21 friends and co-workers who
live or work - some both - in Pacific Palisades,
CA and thought it would be cool to own a winery together.
Pali loves Pinot, plain and simple. They strive
to produce Pinots that accentuate the flavors imparted
by the individual vineyards from where the grapes are
sourced, and accordingly, they produce only single-vineyard
designated wines to highlight the individual flavors
of the vineyards.
Focusing on Pinot Noirs of the Willamette Valley,
Sonoma County, and the Santa Rita Hills, Pali has
modeled itself after its well-known next-door neighbor
in Lompoc, CA, Loring Wine Company, founded in the
late
1990's
as a
purveyor
of single-vineyard Pinots.
Aged in
100 percent French oak for 10 months, this smooth
and elegant Pinot shows ripe, concentrated
black fruits and raspberries with hints
of spice and a soft touch of minerality. It is rich
and delicate with moderate tannins and a soft finish.
Serve with
roast or rotisserie birds, beef daube, or grilled
lamb chops.
