Gérard Bertrand
"La
Reserve"
Coteaux
du Languedoc - La Clape,
France
Gérard
Bertrand is the owner of 325 hectares of vineyards
on the best of Languedoc’s terroirs, including the
82-hectare estate
of Château
l'Hospitalet in the sub-district of La Clape,
an area expected to be awarded full 'appellation
contrôlée'
status in time for the 2010 vintage.
These grapes are handpicked,
yields are low, and the
vineyards have
been worked in such as way as to allow the old vines
to flourish, and to promote the diversity of grape
varieties.
Aged
eight months in French oak barrels, this
blend of Grenache Blanc (30%), Bourboulenc (40%), and
Vermentino (30%) produces a beautiful, yellow-hued
wine with intense aromas of jasmine, peach, pear, citrus
fruit and pineapple. These notes are intertwined with
cinnamon, honey, quince jam and light, herbal notes
in a fresh, toasty finish.
Only
3000 cases produced. Serve chilled with fish, veal
chops, chicken and turkey.

Gérard Bertrand
"Grand Terroir"
Tautavel
Cotes
du Roussillon Villages, France
Tautavel,
located in the rugged mountains northwest of Perpignan,
is known not only for its wines, but also Tautavel
Man, which,
at an estimated
450,000 years
old when discovered in 1971, is one of the oldest
examples of Homo erectus (upright man)
ever found in Europe.
Tautavel
is one of four villages that may append their names
to
the Cotes du Roussillon Villages appellation.
Wines have been made here since ancient times and
the style is truly unique - rich, dense, and surprisingly
fruity. The
wines are only red, from restricted yield
Grenache, Syrah,
and Carignan grapes grown on clay and limestone soils
and schist marls.
This '05
is a beautiful red color, with elegant notes of black
fruits, spices, herbs, and leather. Full-bodied
with
soft,
round tannins. Serve with roasted peppers and pork.
