Featured Wine

Below are the December, 2009 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

White Wine

Domaine Charles Bove

Méthode Traditionnelle Brut

Loire Valley, France

Domaine Charles Bove Méthode Traditionnelle BrutThis non-vintage sparkling wine is composed of a selection of juice from the vines of the "Garden of France," the Loire Valley, an enchanted land of vineyards, flowers and rolling green hills dotted with more than a thousand châteaux.

The wines are vinified, blended and bottled in the Bove cellars, an underground quarry abandoned after it had been used to build the Loire châteaux. Made according to traditional methods, the secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle over a period of about four months.

The wine is 100% Chenin Blanc, light golden in color, with small, long-lasting bubbles. Full and frothy upfront with almond, fig and pear flavors, it is a festive wine for a festive time!

Red Wine

2007 Quattro Leoni Barbera d'Asti

Piedmont, Italy

Quattro Leoni Barbera d'Asti

Barbera d'Asti is an Italian red wine made from the Barbera grape, first discovered in the hills of Monferrato in central Piedmont in the 13th century. Today, it is most associated with the hilly Piedmont provinces of Asti and Alexandria, the former being granted DOC status in 1970.

Quattro Leoni (Four Lions) wines are hand-picked, estate-grown wines produced from vineyards that, along with the family lineage, date back to 1108 AD.

The wine is magenta with a rich burgundy hue. An underlying floral note of roses with coffee, and a touch of gaminess or leather define the nose. The palate gives rich, dark cherry flavors, a touch of rhubarb, toffee notes, and a refined raspberry character. Lots of fruit here, but it has a very smooth, integrated finish.

Serve with osso bucco, lasagna, and grilled pork chops.
