Featured Wine

Below are the February, 2010 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

White Wine

2008 First Drop

"The White One"

South Australia

2008 First Drop "The White One"

The blend is 70% Semillon, 25% Chardonnay and 5% Arneis from vines that vary from 5 - 45 years of age.

The Semillon is from Barossa Valley where the vineyards are clay over limestone. The Chardonnay and Arneis are from the Adelaide Hills, with its schist and granitic soils.

The fruit was picked early to preserve acid. Afterward, the wine was gently fermented at cool temperatures to keep the pure, clean fruit flavors.

Pale golden yellow in color, with orchard and citrus fruits, and hints of minerals and white flowers on the nose. Fresh in the mouth, with moderately concentrated pear and lemon flavors underscored by refreshing minerality, it finishes with notes of succulent herbs and orange peel.

Enjoy now or over the next 2 - 4 years with proper cellaring.

Red Wine

2008 Copa del Rey Merlot

Maipo Valley, Chile

2008 Copa del Rey Merlot

The abundant wine region of Chile is agriculturally rich and its many appellations are emphasized by moderate climates, varied terrain and deep, rich soils - all ideal for producing world class wines. The Copa del Rey Merlot is grown in the heart of the Maipo Valley, located in central Chile just south of Santiago, surrounded by the Maipo River, Andes Mountains and the Coastal Range. This appellation is warm and arid, with a desert-like climate and sandy, naturally-drained soils.

In the vineyard, extra hang-time allowed the grapes to reach full physiological ripeness, developing great intensity, depth and structure. In the cellar, French oak added complexity, body and flavor, with micro-oxygenation used to soften the tannins and create a rich, round mouthfeel. The result is a complex, lush and exceptional wine that reflects the unique terroir of the appellation.

Elegant and rich in the nose, the bold expressions of fruit, along with a touch of toasted oak, spiced notes and cherry aromas, make this wine a perfect match for both entrees with a kick, but also with rich, decadent desserts.
