Featured Wine

Below are the March, 2010 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

White Wine

2008 Gainey Vineyard Riesling

Santa Ynez Valley

Santa Barbara County, California

2008 Gainey Vineyard Riesling

Gainey Vineyard is committed to farming its vineyards in a safe and sustainable way—a way that protects its workers, benefits the environment and produces its fine wines. Grapes for this wine are sourced from the Home Ranch Vineyard located in the warm, eastern portion of the Santa Ynez Valley, an area primarily planted to Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The aromas of this lovely wine fully capture the high-toned floral qualities, including jasmine, honeysuckle and rose petal, as well as seductive honeyed peach, apricot and spice scents that endear Riesling to so many wine lovers. On the sleek, beautifully composed palate, concentrated fresh apple, spiced pear and ripe peach flavors lead to a dry, spicy finish with refreshing acidity and minerality that pave the way for the next sip.

An ideal aperitif, this serious California Riesling complements sushi and sashimi, lighter fish dishes, roast turkey, spicy Asian cuisines and soft cheeses. Enjoy over the next 1 - 2 years.

Red Wine

2006 Gainey Vineyards Merlot

Santa Ynez Valley

Santa Barbara County, California

2006 Gainey Vineyard Merlot

The long, cool 2006 growing season in Santa Ynez Valley was made to order for Merlot, a cool-climate variety that loves to ripen slowly and steadily, accumulating sugar and flavor without becoming overripe. Gainey's 2006 Merlot is a perfect illustration.

The nose opens with toasty black plum and black cherry aromas which, with airing, reveal complex mocha, cedar, black olive, tobacco and mint scents. On the rounded, richly textured palate, the wine's mouthfilling plum, black cherry, cassis and roasted coffee flavors are streaked through with a vein of zesty herbal spice.

Superbly balanced, with supple tannins, this expressive, cool-climate Merlot is drinking beautifully right now. It will provide plenty of pleasure when paired with grilled or rotisserie chicken, pork tenderloin, simply prepared beef dishes, mildly sauced pastas, and flavorful hard cheese.

Wines by Jennifer is also proud to present our "Cellar Club", featuring a new wine each month suitable for long-term aging. Call the shop and ask for Jennifer for all the details on this exciting Club, or visit our Featured Cellar Club Wine page for details on this month's selection.
