Featured Wine

Below are the September, 2010 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

White Wine

2009 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny

Loire Valley, France

2009 Domaine du Salvard ChevernyThe Delaille family has owned Domaine du Salvard for over 100 years and expanded the property from 10 hectares to 35 while passing it down through generations. Brothers Emmanuel and Thierry represent the fifth generation of the family to farm the land and continue the winemaking tradition.

In the Loire River Valley, the appellation of Cheverny begins at the eastern edge of the Touraine region and extends eastward along the river's south bank for about 30 miles. Domaine du Salvard is located in the commune of Fougères sur Bièvre.

The Delailles grow Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to blend 85/15 for this unoaked wine, and Cheverny is the only Loire appellation where this blend is authorized. Though they make both white and red wine, about 90% of their sustainably farmed vineyards are planted to Sauvignon Blanc.

Light straw-yellow in color. Tangy and earthy scents of granny smith apple, wet grass and minerals. In the mouth, very tangy with a tart citrus/herbal quality. Very light with a moderately long finish.

2007 Axis Zinfandel

Lodi, California

2007 Axis Zinfandel

Sitting at the edge of the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta, Lodi benefits from the distinctive bay delta breezes that cool the region in the afternoon and evenings creating characteristic Lodi Zinfandel - ripe, forward fruit with soft, polished tannins.

Dating back to the late 1800's, Lodi has a long, proud history of producing some of the finest Zinfandel grapes in the state. These distinctive vineyards, which survived Prohibition by being packed and shipped east for home winemakers, are now emerging as some of the finest Zinfandel wines being produced in California. Growers, vintners, and consumers from around the world are quickly discovering the distinctive character of Lodi Zinfandel.

As a result, California’s Lodi region has become the reference point, or Axis, for great Zinfandel, a hallmark of New World winemaking. Drawn from marine-influenced vineyards that produce grapes with concentrated berry jam flavors, this wine is rich and robust with spicy, toasty notes on the finish.
