Featured Wine

Below are the March, 2011 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

White Wine

2009 Simonsig "Sunbird"

Sauvignon Blanc

Stellenbosch, South Africa

Simonsig 2009 Sunbird Sauvignon BlancSimonsig first bottled a Sauvignon Blanc in 1978. More so than most, it is a variety whose quality originates in the terroir of the vineyard, with 2009 proving to be an exceptional vintage.

The wine shows brilliant hues of light straw with youthful green tints. There is a combustion of tropical fruit flavors combined with sassy green pepper and hints of asparagus. The crisp acidity and mineral notes ensure a lingering, fresh finish.

Further development of flavors will occur 12 - 24 months after the vintage, but the fruitiness is more pronounced in its youth.

A great friend to fine seafood, poultry and pasta dishes (such as the "Seafood Pasta Salad" featured in our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook), or the perfect aperitif on a warm summer's day!

South Africa Winelands

Red Wine

2005 Henschke

Keyneton Estate "Euphonium"

Barossa, South Australia

2005 Henschke Keyneton Estate "Euphonium"The Henschke family is one of the longest-established wine names in Barossa. This beautiful wine from the exceptional 2005 vintage is a blend of 63% Shiraz, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc from fruit grown in Eden Valley and Barossa Valley.

Matured in 20% new, 80% used French (50%) and American (50%) hogsheads for 20 months prior to blending and bottling.

The wine is very deep crimson in color, with sweet lifted aromas of blackberries, plums, cassis and mulberries, and hints of anise, cedar and vanilla. Ripe sweet blackberry fruits appear on the lush, layered palate. Complex, with velvety tannins, great concentration, very long and silky.

Enjoy now through 2015.
