Featured Wine

Below are the August, 2011 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club.

White Wine

Mapema

2010 Sauvignon Blanc

Mendoza, Argentina

2010 Mapema Sauvignon BlancThe grapes are sourced from the Uco Valley "primera zona" (top viticultural area) in Mendoza from vineyards with an average elevation of 3900 feet and an average age of 15 years.

Aged 90% in stainless steel and 10% in new French oak for three months, this loveable white starts out with enticing aromas of fresh herbs, subtle red grapefruit, and a hint of blossom honey. Once you swirl it around your mouth, you'll get a blast of lemon zest acidity along with lemongrass and a slightly creamy texture. It delivers a lot of body without losing its lively acidity, and the crisp finish doesn't keep this wine from lingering on your palate.

Great all by itself, but also will match up nicely with grilled tuna and swordfish, seared scallops, mussels, sautéed white-flesh fish like sole, or even lighter chicken dishes.

Red Wine

Poggio il Castellare

2008 Rosso di Montalcino

Tuscany, Italy

Poggio il Castellare Rosso di MontalcinoSituated in the most prestigious area of Montalcino, the vineyards of the Poggio il Castellare rise luxuriously in the presence of the masterly abbey of Sant'Antimo. The high value of the wines produced in the area of Montalcino was already known during Etruscan times - in fact the Etruscans had thriving settlements on these hills.

The climate is typically Mediterranean, generally mild with showers concentrated in autumn and spring. The middle hill area is frequently windy, which is ideal to keep the vines healthy. With a high rate of sunny days during the whole vegetative phase, a gradual and complete ripening of the grapes is virtually guaranteed.

The grapes are manually harvested and the wine is matured in 3000 liter oak barrels for 8-10 months.

Ruby red in color, with a delicate violet bouquet. Raspberry jam and cherry fruit on the palate make this a perfect pairing for the "Chicken Spedini" featured in our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook.
