Featured Wine

Below are the December, 2011 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club:

White Wine

2009 Isabel Estate Vineyards

Pinot Gris

Marlborough, New Zealand

2009 Isabel Estate Vineyards Pinot GrisLocated in the Wairau Valley in the heart of Marlborough, Isabel Estate Vineyards receives the full benefit of extended sunshine hours combined with a long, relatively cool growing season. These are perfect conditions for the development of classic Pinot Gris varietal characteristics.

One of the largest family-owned vineyards in Marlborough, Isabel also has some of the oldest vines in the region. Their philosophy of meticulous quality control in the vineyard and rigorous fruit selection is seen as vital to the overall quality of the final wine. Winemaking focuses on the fruit flavors and subtle complexity to enhance qualities produced in the individual parcels of land.

This appealing 2009 Pinot Gris is an elegantly perfumed wine, with complex, exotic aromas of ripe quince paste, almond and rose. In the mouth, spices and white peaches mix with creamy vanilla and hints of acidity in the form of waxy apples. The soft viscosity is derived from extended lees contact which combines with the lengthy palate to give an overall impression of richness coupled with freshness.

Red Wine

2008 Aramis Vineyards "White Label"

Red Blend

McLaren Vale, South Australia

2008 Aramis Vineyards "White Label" Shiraz/CabernetThe area known today as the McLaren Vale was amongst the first to be planted with vines in South Australia. The Aramis vineyards are planted on their own rootstock in some of the world’s oldest mineral rich soils, and in the most temperate of Mediterranean climates.

Only the best parcels of fruit are selected and utilized in the Aramis Vineyards label, producing wines that express truly full varietal flavors. Maturation takes place in American and French oak for 12 - 24 months, with further maturation in bottle before release.

Glass-staining ruby-red in color, with smoky aromas of blackcurrant, cherry pit, licorice and black pepper. Sappy flavors of dark berry preserves and candied flowers, picking up velvety tannins with air. An excellent blend of spiciness and depth that turns sweeter and silkier in the glass, finishing with very good clarity and persistent blackberry and candied cherry notes.
