Featured Wine

Below are the March, 2013 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club:

White Wine

2011 Pierre-Henri Morel

Laudun Blanc

Côtes du Rhône Villages, Rhône Valley, France

2011 Pierre-Henri Morel Laudun BlancPierre-Henri Morel has a true passion for food, wine, and the great terroirs from his native region, the Rhône Valley. Since 2000, he has worked with world-renowned winemaker Michel Chapoutier, and in 2007, began to produce his eponymous wines within the M. Chapoutier facilities with the utmost care and attention.

Laudun, a dry, gravelly appellation in the Côtes du Rhône, has been vineyard territory since antiquity. This light and luscious white wine is a blend of Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc and gives up youthful, fresh aromas of linden blossom, white peach, and aniseed. A racy palate presents floral notes with hints of lime and minerals. The lingering finish will make you crave shrimp and pesto, ratatouille, or roasted garlic, which you can find in our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook. Itís easy and delicious Ė try as a substitute for butter on your dinner roll!

Red Wine

2009 Domaine les Haute Cances

"Cuvée Tradition"

Côtes du Rhône Villages, Rhône Valley, France

2009 Domaine les Haute Cances "Cuvée Tradition"Domaine les Hautes Cances is a small family estate, with 17 hectares of vineyards situated on the slopes overlooking the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages of Cairanne. The vineyards are a legacy of Anne-Marie Astartís family, from a domaine her grandparents founded in the 1890's. When her family bequeathed her and her husband the domaine in 1992, they had to decide whether to take that responsibility, or sell, so they did the reasonable thing and enrolled in the local winemaking school!

The vineyards are certified agriculture biologique and average about 50 years old, with several plots reaching the grand old age of 100. Yields are deliberately kept low so as to express the true terroir of the region. All fruit is hand harvested, hand selected and completely destemmed, and the wines are all estate bottled without filtering.

The 2009 vintage blend is roughly 35% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 15% Carignan, 5% Cinsault, and 5% Counoise. Enjoy this wine with a robust, savory roast beef stew.
