in Paris of Portuguese parents, Vasco Perdiagao acquired
this Rhône winery in 2007 after stints working
in Condrieu and Gigondas. This is his first fully
completed vintage and is attracting positive attention
from the likes of Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson.
It all starts in his four hectares of limestone-rich,
old-vine Rasteau vineyards: organic practices, maniacal
vineyard hygiene, and obsessive ground toiling of the
large, rolled quartz pebbles common in this part of
the Rhône Valley. Steep slopes, southern aspect,
and the relentless winds from the Mistral also contribute
to this unique terroir.
blend is 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, vinified and
aged 12 months in temperature-controlled, large
wooden tanks. Deep, rich, and complex, with firm minerality
and structure balancing layers of fruit and spice.
