Featured Wine

Below are the January, 2015 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club:

White Wine

Krauthaker Pinot Sivi

Kutjevo, Slavonia, Croatia

Krauthaker Pinot SiviThe Kutjevo winegrowing region is located on the southern slopes of Krndija, a Slavonian hill where winemaking began upon arrival of the Cistercians in 1232. The Krauthaker vineyards are found in this area at a latitude of 45.3° North, a latitude shared by some of the most famous winegrowing regions in the world: Piedmont, the Rhone Valley, Bordeaux, and Oregon.

Like all Krauthaker wines, this unoaked Pinot Sivi (Pinot Gris) is made from only hand-picked fruit. Bright straw-yellow and crystal clear, the wine is vibrant and harmonious, with pronounced fruitiness and freshness. The nose shows ripe white and green fruits of apples, pears, and peaches, but also hints of kiwi, lemon peel, and hay. Pleasant saline notes appear on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and a nice, long, smooth finish. Serve with the “Apple Gouda Quesadillas” recipe from our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook.

Red Wine

Chilcas Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc

Maule Valley, Chile

Chilcas Single Vineyard Cabernet FrancThe Chilcas flagship Maule Valley San Rafael Vineyard is nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, and is named for a native Chilean bush with fine pigment that grows in the region. A true steward of the land, Chilcas is intensely committed to sustainability and has been certified sustainable under Wines of Chile's Sustainability program.

The blend is 87% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot, with aging taking place for 12-14 months in 100% French oak, of which 20% is new. Deep ruby-red color, with intense fruit aromas of strawberry, black cherry, and blueberry accompanied by spicy notes of bay leaf, white pepper, and an interesting hint of tobacco. The voluminous palate has smooth, elegant tannins and a tremendously long finish. Pair with the “My Favorite Lamb Curry (Aloo Gosht)” recipe from our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook.
