Featured Wine

Below are the April, 2015 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club:

White Wine

Rippon Vineyard Osteiner

Lake Wanaka, Central Otago, New Zealand

Rippon Vineyard OsteinerBeautiful Central Otago is the only continental climate in New Zealand viticulture, with high ultraviolet light, long sunshine hours, and highly refractive schist soils. The sub-region of Lake Wanaka is more temperate relative to the rest of Central Otago due to its proximity to the Southern Alps.

The vivacious, thick-skinned Osteiner grape is a hybrid of Riesling and Sylvaner that was created in Germany in 1928. The biodynamic producer Rippon Vineyard became enamored of this rare and lustrous grape, and planted it in on their lakeside vineyard in 1994. The generous fruit is all hand-picked and -sorted, gravity-run and racked into tank with its fine lees intact.

With a nose and palate full of white peaches, pears, and apricot, this is an intriguing wine with lots of zest and minerality. Serve it with the “Crab Crostini” recipe from our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook!

UDACA Touriga Nacional

Dão, Portugal

UDACA Touriga NacionalDão is the name of the river and of the region, an expanse of green, sunkissed, softly undulating slopes, and has been a demarcated wine growing area since 1908. The vineyards which produce Dão wines are planted on mostly on granite lands of poor fertility.

UDACA (Union of the Wine Growing Co-operatives of the Dão Demarcated Region) was founded in 1966 with the simple objective of selling and promoting the wines and the Dão region in every marketplace in which they operate.

The noble grape of Portugal, this Touriga Nacional spent 12 months in French Allier, American, and Russian oak barrels, followed by six months refinement in the bottle. Clear ruby in color, with aromas of cherries and spices. The palate is intense and profound, with excellent structure on the refined and highly persistent finish.

Drink now or over the next 10 years with the “Beef Empanadas” recipe from our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook.
