Featured Wine

Below are the January, 2016 Featured Wines for the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club:

White Wine

Italo Cescon

“Il Tralcetto” Pinot Grigio

Veneto, Italy

Italo Cescon “Il Tralcetto” Pinot Grigio

The thin, twisted bit of cane on the neck of the bottle is called a tralcetto, the first of which was picked out from vine prunings by grandmother Anna and wound around the neck of a bottle of wine produced by grandson Italo back in 1957, when he was still a young cellar worker.

Fruit comes from a vast plain of Veneto that is confined by the Adriatic Sea on the south, the gentle hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano on the northwest, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region on the northeast. Straw yellow color, with intense, lingering aromas of nutmeg and vanilla, peach and ripe tomato. Dry and crisp, with flavors of ripe fruit and hints of orange zest on the lengthy, elegant finish.

Serve with the “Crostini with Prosciutto di Parma” from our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook!

Red Wine

Cantine Bonifacio

“La Sfida” Aglianico del Vulture

Basilicata, Italy

Cantine Bonifacio “La Sfida” Aglianico del VultureBasilicata, in southern Italy, is an area discussed only very rarely in wine circles, making it perfect of course for a Wines by Jennifer Club selection! It features stunning mountain and hill ranges, and in fact is one of the most mountainous regions in all of Italy. Total wine production is very small compared to the rest of Italy, but the winemaking tradition dates back over a thousand years.

Aglianico del Vulture is the historic, noble red wine here, ideal for the soil quality and climate. Bonifacio is located in the heart of the area, where for three generations the family has been working with passion and tradition in order to create this beautiful wine.

In their youth, the wines can be rustic with firm, harsh tannins, but given time, these tannins soften and a beautiful, rich, silky texture and chocolate-cherry notes begin to emerge. The wine has consistently shown the ability to improve in the bottle for 6 - 20 years, which is why we’re excited to present this outstanding older vintage for you to enjoy with the “4-Cheese Pizza with Pesto & Sun-Dried Tomatoes” from our Wines by Jennifer Cookbook!
