Wines
by Jennifer has become a truly fun and unique destination
spot for wine lovers, and two of the biggest secrets to our success
are the beautiful facility we've built,
along with the talented team we've assembled
to serve you. We invite you to spend a few minutes
to learn more about
each of them:
|
Our
Facility
Our
circa 1903 house located in the quaint, historical Parkville,
Missouri Old Town District, has been designed in a way not typically
available to traditional retail shops.
Each
room in this totally-restored historic house has been uniquely
decorated to represent the major wine regions from around the
world: Spain and Portugal, Italy, France, Australia and New Zealand,
Germany, Chile and Argentina, South Africa, and the United States
are among the regions represented. These theme rooms are filled
with wines, wine maps, authentic wine making equipment and wine-related
products from the various regions, and are designed in such a
way that you feel as if you're actually tasting
in the wine region of your choice.
Along
with the themed rooms and our unique Tasting
Room, our lower level Art
Gallery is beautifully decorated with works of art contributed
by the finest artists the Midwest has to offer. Choose from the
several intimate seating areas available and enjoy fine wine
and food amidst fine art.
On
nicer days, our guests relax on the front porch with its leafy
view of Parkville's Main Street; on one of the shop’s many balconies
with their picturesque views of Park University; or in the outdoor
wine garden, complete with fountains, greenery, and ample private
seating.

In
inclement weather, our guests often gravitate to the upper level
at Wines by Jennifer, where our baby grand piano awaits. Enjoy
the occasional live music event, or hop in and impress your friends
by tickling the ivories yourself.
In
short, good weather or bad, large party or small, Wines
by Jennifer's spacious and unique facility offers something
for everyone!

Dear
Jennifer,
On
behalf of the Junior Women's Symphony Alliance, I would
like to thank you and your staff for putting together
a wonderful evening for us. The food was delicious
and the featured "West Coast Wines" were
divine! We all enjoyed the unique ambiance of your
establishment and had a great evening!

Our
Team
Jennifer
is the proprietor of Wines by Jennifer.
In her previous life in corporate America, she spent many
a night flying
herself to bed-and-breakfast inns across
the country, and always dreamed of owning one someday.
She pictured an inn
with each of the rooms themed after different
countries of the world - sound familiar?
Alaine was
introduced to Wines by Jennifer as one of our contributing
artists. Her ceramic
pieces are on permanent display in the Art Gallery and
as she became more familiar with the shop, she expressed
an interest in joining us.
Alaine currently
drives all the way from Columbia, MO to work with
us on the weekends. We think that says a lot about her -
and us!
A lifelong Northland
resident, Pam lives in Liberty with her husband, Brian,
and their son, William.
Her Italian heritage
meant an early introduction to wine at the family dinner
table, but as Pam recalls, at age 12, the introduction didn't
go so well.
My, how things have
changed! A trip to Napa Valley and a ride on the Napa Valley
Wine Train and she was hooked - so much so that Pam now counts
wine making as her favorite hobby.
Originally
from Western Kansas, Sara has cultivated her extensive wine
knowledge working at various restaurants,
bars, and wine shops all over Kansas City. She has
been
with us at Wines by Jennifer since the spring of 2004.
Although she favors Rhone varietals, her favorite wine at
the moment is the Crios de Susana Balbo Torrontes, no
doubt a result of her recent 10-day wine excursion to Argentina.
Sara has
completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in social welfare
from the University of Kansas. In addition
to her wine travels, she enjoys sports and exercising, water
and sunshine, live music, and the company of her boyfriend
and their two dogs.
A
native of Columbus, Ohio, Margaret helps out at Wines by Jennifer
when she's not busy with her other job flying Cerner corporate
executives around the world in their Hawker jet.
Margaret's
leisure time is spent playing golf and cheering on her
beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.
Corinna
joins us from Lawrence, KS, where she lives with her husband
of eight years and teaches high school chemistry and biology.
Corinna
fell in love with wine while living and tasting in Oregon's
Willamette Valley and, not coincidentally, her favorite grape
is the Pinot Noir.
She
is currently working on her Masters in Education and Teaching
Gifted Children and also enjoys tennis and cooking.
Tracy
first fell in love with wine in 1987 while working at Bristol
on the Plaza and remembers fondly a surprise birthday trip
given by her husband of 12 years, Steve, to Santa Barbara wine
country, where they visited all of the wineries featured in
the wine cult movie, "Sideways."
Tracy
also works full-time as a massage therapist. In her spare time,
she enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with family, and
managing a household filled with four children, a cat, a hamster,
and two dogs, one of which is a crazy but loveable Labrador
foster dog named "Clyde."
Don
is very active behind the scenes at Wines by Jennifer, devoting
much of his time to marketing and franchise development, although
his favorite role is reputed to be assisting Jennifer in wine "research
and development."
Don
is a licensed real estate broker and commercial pilot.
His latest venture is an early-stage company which
provides technology and internet broadcasting services to high
school
sports organizations.
Don's
leisure pursuits include family time, golf, reading,
traveling, and avidly following the fortunes of the Kansas
City Royals and the University of
Southern California Trojans.
Al
is a retired computer services engineer and has been working
at Wines by Jennifer since 2004, but he and his wife
Teri have been loyal customers from the very beginning.
His
contributions are many: dispensing wine knowledge in the Tasting
Room, showing off his cooking talents at special events, displaying
his beautiful woodturning
pieces in our Art Gallery, and serving as a general handyman
(check out his ingenious "art hanging system", also
in our Art Gallery). He's even been known to provide an introductory
lesson in Hungarian after a glass of wine or two!
Al's
hobbies include woodturning and cooking (of course), tennis,
travel, and brewing beer.
Teri
was born and raised in New York and New Jersey and has been
married to Al Szalay for 36 years. She has been an integral
member of the Wines by Jennifer team since 2004 after retiring
from 33 years in the corporate world with Trans World Airlines
and American Century Investments.
Teri
grew up in a German/Austrian home and was introduced to wine
at a young age. She has been fortunate to travel extensively
and
visit many of the world's famous wine regions in person, and
is always in the mood for a great French Champagne.
In
addition to traveling, Teri also enjoys tennis, cooking, and
reading.
Christa
is the proud mother of two children, son Brett and daughter
Taryn, and has been with Wines by Jennifer since 2003.
Growing
up on Long Island, Crista enjoyed many adventures visiting
vineyards on the East Coast of the island as a teenager, and
has developed a particular taste for Shiraz.
Christa
also enjoys reading, exercising, painting, and taking pictures
of her beautiful children at their many extracurricular activities.
Wines
by Jennifer also wants to extend our best wishes to our
good friends and valued staff members Carrie Pettus Davis
and her husband Matt, who are leaving us for the greener
pastures of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where Carrie will
be pursuing her doctorate degree at the University of North
Carolina. Good luck Carrie and Matt, you will be missed.
Please come back and visit us soon!
