Happy Father's Day from Wines by Jennifer!

And A Special Contest To Celebrate!

Jennifer Stanton of Wines by Jennifer Father's Day has special meaning for me because not only are my dad and I very close, but he was the person who really introduced me to this wonderful world of wine. So a special Happy Father's Day to you, Dad.

Now for the question of the day: "What can I get Dad to show him just how much I care?"

  • A shirt and tie? Too boring.
  • A Mercedes? Too expensive.
  • A subscription to Golf Digest? Too cheap.
  • A dog? What would Mom say?
  • A pair of underwear? Uh, we didn't think so.

May we suggest the gift of wine for dear ole Dad?

A membership to the Wines by Jennifer Wine Club is just the ticket! Look at everything he'll get with his membership:

  • Fun private Wine Club events
  • Free gifts from us to him on his birthday and anniversary
  • 10% off on any purchase (excludes consignment items and items consumed on-premise)
  • 20% off all cases of wine
  • Best of all, a bottle of wine (or two) hand-selected by Jennifer each month

It's The Gift He'll Remember Month After Month

Our minimum membership is just three months and the average monthly cost for one bottle is only $25, so for less than the price of a nice golf shirt, he'll get the gift that keeps on giving every month. He'll be so excited, he'll probably even invite you over to help him drink it.

Think of the smile on Dad's face when he gets his monthly wine and remembers just where it came from!

But Wait, That's Not All...

We did mention a contest, didn't we?

We thought we'd have a little fun with this one, so we're giving away free admission for two to the September 23rd Alfresco Wine Dinner in the Wines by Jennifer Wine Garden (retail value $150) as an added bonus.

Here's how it works:

For every Wines by Jennifer Wine Club membership you buy for Dad, for yourself, or for anyone else, or for any new Wine Club member you refer to us, you will get an entry in the drawing for the big Alfresco Wine Dinner. If the membership is for one wine per month, you get one entry. If it's for two wines per month, that's two entries.

These dinners have been a huge hit and are already close to selling out (and we haven't even decided the menus yet), so the lucky winner will be guaranteed a free Wine Dinner for two on September 23rd. This prize is totally transferable so if you can't go, you can definitely make someone else's day by giving it to them.

"Wait," you say, "my dad and all my friends are already Wine Club members. What can I do?"

Glad you asked. Knowing how popular our Wine Club is and that this might be a real concern for many of you, we have also extended this offer to include our Wines by Jennifer Cellar Club. Our Cellar Club provides serious wines for serious wine connoisseurs (at an average cost per bottle of $50), so think of the points you'll earn with Dad for this one. Not only that, but a Cellar Club membership purchase or referral will get you not one, but two entries into the big contest. Win-win!

"But my dad lives in Peoria."

No problem! Wines by Jennifer "plays in Peoria". And California and Florida and Nebraska and Texas. And many other locations literally across the country where our loyal Wine Club members are located. We can (and do) ship to just about anywhere for a small shipping fee, so we can get your dad his wine wherever he may be.

This contest ends September 1st, so get a head start on the "competition" right now either one of two ways:

  • Call us at 816.505.WINE to purchase a Wine Club membership for Dad or anyone else.

  • Visit our Wine Club Referral page, print out a few copies, and get your referral machine cranked up.

P.S. The Wines by Jennifer Wine Club isn't just for Father's Day. It makes a great gift for just about any occasion, so put your thinking caps on and start putting the odds in your favor for the big contest now.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a final note, as Independence Day approaches, we'd like to express our gratitude to our men and women in uniform. As a token of our appreciation for all they do, we are proud to offer one free tasting in the Wines by Jennifer Tasting Room the week of July 3rd for anyone presenting a valid military ID.

We look forward to seeing you all soon at Wines by Jennifer!

Jennifer

Pinot's "Fun Wine Factoids"

Pinot - "The Official Feline of Wines by Jennifer"

  • The first known reference to a specific wine vintage was by the Roman historian Pliny the Elder who, almost 200 years later, wrote that the 121 B.C. vintage was “of the highest excellence".

  • The ancient Greeks rejected intoxication. In their eyes, only barbarians drank wine straight. They always diluted wine with more than an equal proportion of water.

  • When Mount Vesuvius buried Pompeii in volcanic lava in 79 A. D., it entombed more than 200 wine bars, including eight on a single street. Mount Vesuvius was well known for its vineyards long before it became famous for "blowing its top".

  • Wine grapes grow best in relatively thin topsoil with good drainage and water retention. Rich soil usually leads to bland, poor wines.

  • One of the weirdest grape names is the Portuguese white Borrado das Moscas, translated as "fly droppings". The acidic Portuguese red grape Esgana Cao runs a close second - it translates to "dog strangler".

They are partial to the Spain room, or the front porch when the weather is nice, where they welcome old friends and new acquaintances alike to join their party.

Thanks Ron, Deborah, and Judith! We appreciate your loyalty and look forward to seeing you again soon.

"Tasting Pleasure - Confessions of a Wine Lover"

Jancis Robinson, MW

"Tasting Pleasure - Confessions of a Wine Lover" by Jancis RobinsonMaster of Wine Jancis Robinson is one of the most recognizable authorities in the world of wine today. She is the author of many books on wine, and has also produced a highly acclaimed ten-part series originally airing on public television and now available on DVD, entitled Jancis Robinson's Wine Course. (Thanks to our good friend and customer Ken Anderson, we are actually enjoying this series right now!)

Known in the United States as "the Julia Child of wine", this is a more personal book about Robinson's long love affair with wine and her adventure over the years to the lofty status she now enjoys. It is an informative and wide-ranging memoir, a book to be enjoyed by any wine lover and certainly a worthy addition to any serious wine library.
