"California Dreamin'"

Week of July 21st, 2009

White Wines
  • This beautiful pale-straw colored Pinot Gris has aromas of lime, Roma apples, fig and juicy peaches. The flavors are fruit forward with Kadota figs (green ones), peach, apple, and a hint of cream. The soft texture on the entry has a mineral component, with well-balanced acidity on the finish. This 2006 from the Russian River Valley is a great wine on a summer day or would do well as an aperitif.

  • This 2007 Monterey County Chardonnay is medium-bodied and refreshing with tropical fruit and citrus aromas, followed on the palate by alluring fruit flavors of pineapple, green apple and lemon. Well-balanced acidity gives this wine a clean, crisp mouthfeel with a zesty finish.
Rose Wine
  • This is a classic, beautiful French-style Rose made from the first pressings of Cabernet and Merlot. Although pale in color, it is not a sweet wine but a beautiful food wine made for the summer. Casual enough for sipping by the pool and good with most any lunch food, this 2006 vintage from Napa Valley will be a delightful addition to any party.

Red Wines

  • The winery is based in a new 100,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in American Canyon at the southern end of the Napa Valley. Their fruit is sourced from approximately 1000 acres of vineyards under contract throughout California. This 2008 Pinot Noir shows aromas of cherry cider, plum jam, and spice cake. Vigorous and full-flavored, with notes of cherry cobbler, fresh plum, and toffee.

  • A succulent blend made from grapes from Mendocino and Lake Counties. Rich, fruity, structured….a true joy! The blend for the 2006 vintage is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, but has a bit of Petite Verdot and Merlot blended in, too. Look for balanced fruit and oak in the nose, along with cherries, red meat and smooth tannic structure on the palate—a wine that is balanced enough to be lovely for either quaffing or serving with a meal.

  • The 2007 vintage marks the eleventh release of this Amador County Zinfandel. It is made from grapes that grow on beautiful, rolling mountain sites that have the classic, vermilion-colored, Amador decomposed granite soil. The wine has full black cherry and blackberry fruit aromas, with a beautiful balance and a big, sumptuous, and juicy mouth feel. It also presents complex spicy aromas, with a nice, creamy texture derived from the 10 months time it receives in French oak barrels. It is consistently rated one of the top Zinfandels in its class and one of the best value Zins available. Although drinkable now, it gains nice complexity with bottle age.
