"Northern Hemisphere Wines"

Week of January 10th, 2017

White Wines

  • This Chablis vineyard is situated just behind the Premier Crus Vaillons and Montmains, and benefits from the same quality exposition and soil as its prestigious neighbors. Made with fruit from 30 – 35 year-old vines, this is a fresh, vivacious Chardonnay with intense floral aromas. This Chablis has the perfect balance, combining full, generous fruit flavors with finesse and elegance.
  • A blend of the indigenous Gascogne grape Gros Manseng, along with Sauvignon Blanc, the wine ages on lees for six months in stainless steel tank. The Sauvignon provides notes of flowers, citrus and yellow fruits on the nose. Gros Manseng makes the wine long on the palate, very refreshing and balanced. A very versatile food wine, pair with white and shell fish.

Red Wines

  • This Oregon wine is a blended Pinot Noir utilizing fruit from several different vineyards along benches of the Umpqua River. Ruby color, with aromas of strawberry and raspberry front and center. The flavors exhibit some nice cherry and pomegranate character, along with evident minerality and verve. The tannins and acids are well balanced, contributing to a very pleasing palate experience.   • The bodega is a multi-generational, family-owned winery located in Rioja Baja.Their Reserva is purple/black in color with a fragrant nose of grilled bread, scorched earth, lavender, incense, and blackberry. Dense and concentrated on the palate, it has layers of fruit, succulent flavors, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Give it 2 - 3 years to round out and drink it through 2019.
  • This Valpolicella Superiore is made with fruit coming from 35 – 40 year-old vines. The color is deep red, with slight glints of violet. There is an intense bouquet of cherries with light hints of chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is soft and pleasant with a strong hint of fruit. This well-structured wine goes nicely with hearty pasta dishes, red meat, and mature cheese.
  • This California wine is a proprietary blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. This wine has wonderful depth, with intensely concentrated fruit aromas of overripe blackberry and jam. Medium tannins allow it to drink well now, but it will definitely improve with future cellaring. Pair with smoked ribs or a juicy blue cheese burger.
