"Super Bowl Wines"

Week of January 31st, 2017

White Wines

  • Verdicchio is a white grape variety that has been grown for hundreds of years in the Marche region of central Italy, and is commonly praised as one of Italy's best white varieties. This refreshing example shows wonderful citrus notes blending with tropical tones of mango and hints of walnut. Bright acidity and vibrant white fruit flavors make for a very versatile and refreshing wine!
  • This Napa Chardonnay is a bright, light straw color, with aromas of honeydew melon, juicy tangerine, and a slight hint of butterscotch. In the mouth, the wine strikes a pleasing balance between rich and delicate, with flavors of citrus blossom and a hint of cinnamon. The moderate oak structure frames the wine's delicacy quite nicely, providing length and depth to its elegance. Enjoy this wine with the “Stuffed Mushroom Caps with Blue Cheese Souffle” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!

Red Wines

  • This dark, elegant Pinot Noir comes from a variety of sites along the northern slopes of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Red fruits and a beautiful, elegant balance, this is a medium-bodied Pinot with savory notes and structure from judicious use of just 20% new oak. Delicious on its own, or with a myriad of cuisine: chicken, pork, red-fleshed fish, duck, or game.
  • Barbera arrived in California along with the early Italian immigrants. Celebrated around the world as an extremely food-friendly wine with refined tannins and lively acidity, this Barbera is aged in oak barrels for increased complexity. The wine is loaded with the vibrant red fruit aromas and flavors for which Amador Barbera grapes are known.
  • Langhe is one of the premiere Nebbiolo regions in all of Piedmont, and this wine delivers all the perfume of fine Nebbiolo with a silky texture and grace. Sweet cherry, vibrant raspberry, baking spice, fresh earth, licorice root, and a note of crushed rose petal permeate the nose. The palate shows fine tannins and lingering notes of berry, licorice, and rose. A great match for roast chicken, mushroom risotto, or even mushroom-topped pizza!
  • This rustic but smooth Columbia Valley Cabernet coats the palate with layers of ripe red fruit and smooth tannins, leading to a hearty and lengthy finish. This is a seriously versatile wine for the table, excelling with grilled burgers and brats, as well as winter soups and roasted meat, fowl or veggies.
