"California vs. Europe"

Week of February 7th, 2017

White & Rosé Wines

  • The vineyard is situated just behind the Chablis Premiers Crus of Vaillons and Montmains, and benefits from the same quality exposition and soil as its prestigious neighbors. Made with fruit from 30 – 35 year-old vines, this is a fresh, vivacious style with intense floral aromas. This Chardonnay has the perfect balance, combining full, generous fruit flavors with finesse and elegance.
  • This winery's unique tasting room was built in a former mechanic’s garage and gas station in Calistoga which dates back to 1930s. A blend of Pinot Noir, Grenache, and Syrah, this rosé smells like summer – fresh watermelon, hints of jasmine, and some honeysuckle. Juicy flavors of melon and apricot coat your palate, balance by tangy acidity and slight undertones of spice and honey. Yummy!

Red Wines

  • A Venetian blend of Rondinella, Molinara, and Corvina, the wine is made with fruit coming from 35 – 40 year-old vines. The color is deep red, with slight glints of violet. There is an intense bouquet of cherries with light hints of chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is soft and pleasant with a strong hint of fruit. This well-structured wine goes nicely with hearty pasta dishes, red meat, and mature cheese.
  • This Tinta de Toro is made from 90-year-old vineyards of limited production situated in poor soil and cultivated biodynamically. Intense aromas of blackberries and blueberries, with mineral notes providing complexity. In the mouth, it is loaded with fruit combined with pleasant liquorice sensations from the maturity of the grapes used to make the wine.
  • This Alicante estate occupies 40 hectares, cultivated mostly with the indigenous Monastrell grape, but also Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Restrained aromas of red fruit layered with subtle, earthy notes of a wet forest floor, rich, dark chocolate, and deep gray slate. The textured palate is creamy and delicate, with flavors of homemade chocolate truffles and smoky vanilla character backed by dark, luscious red fruit.   • Not your typical red wine, this Lake County red is a blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, and Petit Verdot. This unique blend fills your nose with blue berries and spice, a voluptuous mouth feel of dark berry fruit, super texture, and soft tannins with a full-bodied finish. Pair with grilled meats, pastas, smoked cheeses, and comfort foods.
