"March Madness: Down Under Regional"

Week of March 21st, 2017

 

The excitement is in the air, as our 13th annual Wines by Jennifer® March Madness tournament is now underway!

White Wines

  • This Australian winery has spread its wings and now produces this excellent Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Bright aromas of lemon and grapefruit peel and fresh passionfruit lead to an expressive palate of lemons, peach and nectarine, with a lip-smacking, fresh acidity that keeps you longing for more. Crisp, zesty and refreshing, it's perfect with the “Seven Layer Salad” recipe from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!
  • The estate was founded in 1682 in the valley of the Simonsberg Mountain in South Africa’s premium wine region of Stellenbosch. They are well known as producers of exceptional Chardonnays made with wild oak barrel and full malolactic fermentation. Apricot, coconut, and orange peel aromas are followed by flavors of marzipan, sponge cake, and citrus rounded off with oak notes and balanced, fresh acidity.

Red Wines

  • Now entering its third generation, this is one of South Africa's leading family-owned wine estates. The uniquely South African varietal Pinotage exhibits aromas of ripe cherry, strawberries, and plums, with ripe, red berry fruit and spices appearing on the palate. Full-structured and well-balanced, this wine rewards with a juicy yet elegant mouthfeel and silky soft tannins.
  • Now celebrating their 101st anniversary, this winery takes sustainability to a whole new level: they are the only South African winery, and one of only three in the world, that are carbon neutral. This Cabernet Sauvignon shows spicy aromas of liquorice and vanilla that overlay the rich blackcurrant fruit. Careful oaking provides necessary structure on the ripe, full, fruit-driven palate. Long and complex, this wine has the depth and power that will reward further bottle aging.
  • This family-owned estate is one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. Their Shiraz gives elevated floral notes of roses and subtle violets, with flavors of dark black cherries, blueberries and mulberries. Well-integrated and finely woven with subtle sweet oak, a delicate acid line and chalky structural tannins.
  • Produced by one of the country's most acclaimed wineries, this big and bold South Australian Shiraz is full of black fruit, with delicious, fleshy ripeness wrapped in toasty oak. Polished tannins and a hint of black pepper and eucalyptus on the finish make it an excellent pairing with grilled meats.
