"Wines for Earth Day"

Week of April 18th, 2017

White Wines

  • The grapes are grown in the Swartland region which hugs the wild West Coast of South Africa. The blend varies with each vintage, but Chenin Blanc is always the workhorse. Chardonnay contributes aromas of dried peaches, apricots and ripe citrus, while Viognier brings some spice and palate length. Pair with the “Chilled Seafood Dip” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!
  • This winery has been quietly producing small production, hand-crafted wines in the Napa Valley for over 30 years. Made entirely from whole cluster-pressed Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel, this limited production rosé has a perfume of fresh, wild strawberries, peaches and notes of ruby red grapefruit. A luscious mouth feel with bright acidity and a beautiful, long finish complements a wide variety of foods.

Red Wines

  • Located in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, this estate is a historic 17th-century farm with a long wine-making history. This 100% Sangiovese comes from the west-facing, low-yielding estate vineyard in the heart of Chianti. Bright cherries meld with notes of wild Tuscan undergrowth to provide a very pleasant tasting experience that would be perfect for your next pizza dinner!
  • Barbera is the most widely cultivated grape varietal in Piedmont. It is usually considered to be an everyday wine, but can also be saved for special occasions. This wonderful example from Alba is an intense, ruby-red color with garnet hues. Full-bodied and smooth, it shows aromas and flavors of Morello cherry and slight violet hints. Mild tannins and bright acidity make this a very versatile food wine.
  • Nero d'Avola is Sicily's classic indigenous red varietal. Deep, bright, ruby red color with intense violet hues. On the nose, rich sensations of red plum and cherry, with hints of Mediterranean underbrush, black pepper and eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is invigorating and cohesive, displaying richness and depth with well-balanced tannins that are lively yet soft. Pair with rigatoni pasta, roasted pork, or rack of lamb.
  • A classic Right Bank blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Bordeaux rouge is an opaque, ruby-red color. Aromas of freshly crushed red berry fruits and underlying notes of cherries jubilee and violets. In the mouth, traces of Mirabelle plum skins, spice, and some good mineral notes with vague hints of wood all team up to provide a taste sensation that will have you reaching for more!
