"May Day Wines"

Week of May 2nd, 2017

White Wines

  • This pioneering family winery grows and produces distinct, elegant Pinot Noir and Alsace-inspired white wines in southwest Oregon's Umpqua Valley. This distinctive Riesling has aromas of honey, stone fruit, peach and green apple that are enhanced by a lively spice complexity. The flavors build on these themes, with the addition of jasmine, banana and lemon zest. Crisp and refreshing with a lingering finish, try with sushi, fresh fruit, or creamy cheese plates.
  • Located in the southern part of Napa Valley, Yountville is well-suited for Chardonnay due to the cooling effect generated by nearby San Pablo Bay. This unoaked Chardonnay has excellent fruit characteristics of pear, green apple, melon, and a hint of vanilla. Try it with the "Pineapple Cheese Toast" recipe from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!

Red Wines

  • Developed in 1961 as a cross of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, Marselan produces an easy-drinking and food-friendly wine in the southern Rhône. This medium-bodied wine shows aromas and flavors of black currants, wild herbs, loamy earth, and tobacco leaf, along with a subtle meatiness that makes it a nice pairing for a variety of game dishes.
  • Coonawarra is famous as home to sumptuous Australian reds that spring from the rich, rust-colored terra rossa soils for which it is internationally recognized. This Merlot offers cassis, black currant, and olive aromas that lead to a supple, medium- to full-bodied palate loaded with sweet fruit, light tannin, and slight toast. Enjoy now or over the next 4 - 6 years.
  • This producer takes sustainability to a whole new level: they are the only South African winery, and one of only three in the world, that are carbon-neutral. This Cabernet Sauvignon shows spicy aromas of liquorice and vanilla that overlay the rich blackcurrant fruit. Careful oaking provides necessary structure on the ripe, full, fruit-driven palate. Long and complex, this wine has the depth and power that will reward further bottle aging.
  • This family-owned and -operated winery is committed to artisan wines crafted with love and attention. That personalized care has led to numerous awards and accolades, including being chosen 2012 Washington State Winery of the Year from Wine Press Northwest. Their Cab shows expressive aromas of dark cherry, pomegranate and nuances of mocha and rose petal. Full, rich flavors persist on a long, satisfying finish.
