"Picnic Wines"

Week of June 6th, 2017

Sparkling & White Wines

  • This wine is 100% Nerello Mascalese, a highly regarded, dark-skinned grape that grows most commonly on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in northeastern Sicily. The wine is made in the Methodo Classico, the Italian version of the Champagne method. Moderate maturation on the yeast delivers expressive fruit, freshness, and persistence, making it the perfect start to any late spring picnic!
  • Vinho Verde is a style of wine produced in the Minho region of northwest Portugal. It means “green wine” in Portuguese, but refers to the youth of the wine, not the color. This wine merges to perfection the floral aromas of the Loureiro grape with the tropical notes of the Alvarinho. Pale yellow color, with pear, apple and citrus aromas and flavors. Light, clean, and refreshing, with the traditional spritzy finish.

Red Wines

  • This Pinot Noir comes from a small, family-owned and -operated winery in the Willamette Valley. Beautiful black and red cherry, with just the right combo of floral high notes and resinous savory notes. Equal parts lusty and graceful, it's just as happy being opened tonight as it is being aged for a few years. Only 500 cases produced, so grab it while it's hot!
  • Known locally as Tinto Roble, this wine is produced from old, low-yielding vineyards from the best sites in Ribera del Duero. Aged four months in French oak barrels, the nose is full of ripe fruit and toasted notes of the barrel. In the mouth, it is a tasty and persistent wine, with perfect balance between the acidity and the tannins. Try with the “Beef Empanadas” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!
  • This Mendoza Malbec shows aromas of balsa wood, blackberry, leather and peppercorn that lead to flavors of blackberry, cassis and boysenberry with a chocolaty richness. Firm tannins and snappy acidity are quite balanced and harmonious, allowing for immediate enjoyment, or over the next 2 – 4 years.
  • This producer makes wine made from small lots of select varietals from estate vineyards in St. Helena and Calistoga. They also produce wine from other premium Napa and Sonoma growers under long-term vineyard contracts. Their Sonoma County Zinfandel is rich and complex with juicy flavors of wild cherries, blueberries, chocolate and a touch of black pepper.
