Tasting Table

Week of August 1st, 2017

Sparkling & White Wines

  • A blend of traditional Cava grapes with an additional dash of Chardonnay, this brut nature Penedes cava is bright yellow-gold in color, with an intense bouquet of green apple and stone fruit. Dry and elegant, with fresh acidity and balance from 24 months sur lie aging. Ideal for appetizers, cold meats, fish, shellfish, cheeses and white meats.
  • Founded in 1892, this Chilean producer is now in its fifth generation. Many of the vines planted are over 90 years old, carried over from Bordeaux, pre-phylloxera, by the first generation. This Sauvignon Gris is pale yellow color, with fresh peach, tangerine and honey aromas complemented by subtle floral and herb notes. Silky, but with impressive heft and lift to the juicy citrus and pit fruit flavors. Tarragon and candied orange zest notes cling on a very long, seamless finish that leaves dusty mineral notes in its midst.

Red Wines

  • Tupungato is the cultural center of Mendoza’s Uco de Valle region. This Malbec is a beautiful red-purple color, with a vibrant nose of red and black cherries and ripe plums that combine with floral touches of violets and rose petals. Nice, full tannic structure, with vanilla, chocolate, and some spice on the long and complex palate. Try with the “Beef Empanadas” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!
  • Priorat is one of only two regions (along with Rioja) in Spain designated as DOCa, the highest qualification level for a wine region according to Spanish wine regulations. This is the landscape in which this winemaker creates his scant production of 2000 bottles, selling the rest of the harvest to other producers. A blend of Garnatxa, Syrah, Carinyena and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a smooth and subtle wine, overdelivering with flavors of cooked strawberry, turned earth, and herbal notes.
  • These wines are small-batch, one-time releases that represent the best of the varietal and appellation. This Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Red Mountain, one of Washington’s most prestigious AVAs. A core of black currant jam and dark cherry, with lovely notes of cedar, spice, chocolate mocha, and dried flowers interwoven throughout.

Dessert Wine

  • Made exclusively from Malvasia grapes grown in the hilltop vineyards of Casorzo and its neighboring villages, this soft, frizzante wine is one of the most highly esteemed Italian dessert wines. Pleasantly rich, aromatic, and sweet, it is low in alcohol, and as a result can be enjoyed at any time of day. Ideal with desserts and fruit salads, this is a comfort wine for all seasons and reasons.
