Wine Tasting Table

Week of October 24th, 2017

White Wines

  • This Austrian Gruner Veltliner is light yellow color with green tints. Aromas of apple and pear lead to a dry, fresh, earthy palate. Hints of apple and apricot appear on the mid-palate, completed by a very refreshing acidity on the finish. This is a great introduction to a highly versatile and increasingly popular grape that will pair well with the “Iowa Hot Artichoke Dip” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!
  • This 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Languedoc, France is a lustrous gold color, with intense gooseberry aromas and a delightfully vivacious, fruity palate. Very crisp and refreshing, it will pair nicely with a wide variety of lighter dishes.

Red Wines

  • This wine is a blend of 66% Tannat (the signature red grape of Uruguay), along with 16% Cabernet Franc and 16% Merlot. Fruit is all hand-harvested, producing a wine of dark color with purplish-blue hints, and elegant, roasted aromas with notes of coffee. In the mouth, the wine is full-flavored and well-structured, with excellent balancing acidity that makes for a very food-friendly pour!
  • If you like full-bodied, full-flavored wine, McLaren Vale, South Australia is the place! This blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre, and Cabernet Sauvignon has a perfumed nose of black and blue fruit, chocolate and hazelnut, with minimal oak influence. Fleshy, sumptuous and mouth-filling, with a wall of smooth tannin, balanced acidity, and a nutty, lightly saline finish of good length.
  • This highly extracted Syrah from California's beautiful Sierra Foothills is made with organically grown grapes. It comes with a beautiful, dense color and prominent notes of blackberry, leather, spice, and toasty oak. Generously full-bodied, with loads of depth and complexity helped along by the addition of 7% Petite Sirah to the blend.
  • Lodi, California, with its classic Mediterranean climate and well-drained, sandy soils, has been an ideal growing region for world-class Zin for over 100 years. Twisted, gnarly, head-trained Zinfandel vines aged 60-80 years from five different vineyards produced the magnificent grape clusters used to make this wine. Rich and supple, this generous Zin offers plush aromas and flavors of ripe blackberries, pepper and chocolate, finishing with well-rounded tannins and a lingering, dark fruit finish.
