Wine Tasting Table

Week of November 7, 2017

White and Rose´ Wines

  • Known for its racy acidity and vegetal and peppery aromatics, Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s most important variety, producing nearly one-third of all Austrian wines. This is a father/son estate of 14 hectares that produces this zingy and spicy wine that is fresh and expressive, with a lingering minerality on the finish.
  • This Paso Robles rose´ is inspired by the refreshing, dry rose´s of southern France. Primarily Syrah with a splash of Viognier, the wine is coral color, with wild strawberry and ripe plum aromas and hints of rhubarb and cherry blossom. Fresh and lively with expressive red fruits and a quenching finish. Try with the “Strawberry Corn Pancakes” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!

Red Wines

  • This maison today has 75 acres under vine scattered throughout the Beaujolais Cru and Villages appellations, 98% of which is planted to Gamay. This wine is deep in color, with a fruity and floral bouquet. An impressive balance of acidity, richness and finesse, pair with wild game, meat dishes with sauces, roasts, charcuterie and cheese.
  • Cafayate is the most famous region in Salta, and is known not only for its exceptional wines produced in high-altitude locales, but also the spectacular mountain views. This Malbec shows baked plum, molasses, balsamic vinegar and pleasant oak aromas that feed into a palate braced by a wonderful line of acidity. Saucy red-berry and plum flavors with tobacco and pepper accents, with good weight and balance.
  • This South Australia Shiraz is blended with 10% Malbec to produce a wine of opaque ruby color, with potent aromas of dark berries, cherry pit and licorice, with a smoky topnote. Lush and expansive, offering spicy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that are lifted by zesty acidity. Finishes with slightly edgy tannins and good, smoky persistence.
  • The winery makes their wines in St. Helena, CA with fruit sourced from select vineyards across the state. Aged entirely in French oak, this Lodi Cab shows massively rich flavors of blackberries and cassis. Medium-bodied, with lush mouthfeel, balance and complexity. The ripe, sweet tannins and a touch of toasted oak complete the gentle finish.
