Week of January 9th, 2018

White Wines

  • This Chardonnay is composed of 50% Russian River Valley fruit and 50% Monterey County fruit, and is a true testament to the art of blending. Juicy and fruit-forward, it has notes of tropical fruit, honeycomb, stone fruit and well-integrated oak. Balanced and rich on the palate, this complex wine shows a bright acidity that makes it both delicious and food-friendly.   • This South African Chenin Blanc is pale, golden-yellow color, with complex aromas of tropical fruit and honeysuckle and hints of subtle butterscotch. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with a creamy texture livened by fresh acidity. Patience will be rewarded by honeyed aromas and flavors that will develop with further aging in the bottle. Try it with the “Apple Raisin Bran Muffins” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!

Red Wines

  • Made from 100% Gamay Noir, this is “old school” Beaujolais, with a cold soaking of the grapes, light pigéage (a classic French wine-making method where the grapes are stomped down in open vats by foot) to extract color and flavor from the skins, and use of indigenous yeasts. Plenty of bright red fruit on the nose and in the mouth make for a textbook example of this under-appreciated varietal.
  • This sexy, luscious Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from Santa Rita Hills (76%) and Russian River Valley (24%). It has a sweet perfume of black olive, freshly turned earth, cranberry and Bing cherry. The inviting palate carries the fruit and earth notes, along with hints of black olive, white pepper, and a slight caramel oak flavor.   • The wine is a blend of Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from the illustrious Simonsberg appellation in Stellenbosch. Deep garnet in color, with aromas of red cherries, black current, fynbos (a native Western Cape shrub), and white pepper. Berries, cherries and fresh vanilla are evident on the palate, with an elegant, balanced mouthfeel and light, chalky tannins on the long, savory finish.
  • The Colchagua Valley boasts a nearly perfect wine-growing climate: warm, but cooled by ocean breezes; and dry, but refreshed by rivers and occasional rainfall. This Carmenere has complex aromas of ripe blackberry with spicy layers of cinnamon, clove and cocoa. On the palate, vibrant flavors of blackberry and black currant with hints of woodsy earth, black pepper, herbs and oak. It is dry with with firm tannins and a long finish.
