Wine Tasting Table

Week of February 20th, 2018

White Wines

  • A progressive and lasting decline in the global market for Armagnac created the need to sell the region’s white wine as wine rather than as spirits. To accomplish this, the vignerons imported a grape variety, Gros Manseng, from the neighboring historic appellation of Jurançon in order to balance the Ugni Blanc and Colombard traditionally grown in Gascogne. The result here is a zesty, lively wine with a nose of white fruits and a clean, crisp finish.
  • This Italian Pinot Grigio from Trentino is pale yellow, with fruity aromas of pear, melon, peach and white flowers. Fleshy and gently sweet, offering broad orchard and pit fruit flavors and a bracing note of lemon. Rich and textured, with good finishing grip and a lingering note of juicy white peach. This is a very versatile food wine that will pair well with the “Olive Ball” recipe from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!

Red Wines

  • Made from grapes from the leading California wine growing regions of Napa, Sonoma, Central Coast, Monterey and Lodi, this Merlot captures the essence of California. Notes of black cherry, currant and blackberry fruit with toasty oak undertones lead to a delightful, lingering finish.
  • This dark red Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley gives off aromas of oak, vanilla, spice, and red jam. A supple, warm, jammy red wine with plenty of spicy oak flavor and just enough tannins to add balance. It has a nice complexity of flavors and is overall an extremely pleasing wine at an affordable price!
  • This innovative, modern Argentine winery selects, collects, and processes its own grapes by hand from three Mendoza estate vineyards. The wines are produced from old-vine grapes and are matured in French oak (90%) and American oak (10%) barrels for a minimum of 12 months. Their estate Malbec shows cherry and plum aromas that lead to a palate of dark fruit and earth, with medium to strong tannins and excellent length.
  • This South African Cabernet Sauvignon blend comes from grapes sourced in the Western Cape of South Africa. This spicy, crowd-pleasing red wine is full of hypnotic aromas and flavors of caramel, milk chocolate and some lilac.
