Week of September 11th, 2018

White Wine

  • This Tuscan Vermentino has a beautiful clear-straw color with bright green hues. In the nose, the wine is very intense, with aromas of citrus, peach, melon and floral notes such as jasmine. The long finish is fresh and refined. This is a delicious, generous white wine that is irresistible with every sip and makes you feel like you’re “Under the Tuscan Sun!”

Red Wines

  • This Fronton Negrette is made from hand-harvested grapes that are pressed and then placed by gravity in vats of small size which allows better control of temperature stability. Matured for 8-10 months in barrel. Maximum respect for nature in the vineyard has long been the creed of this winegrower. Sheep take care of the grass control between the rows in the winter, and otherwise interventions are minimal.
  • The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah sourced from some of the most famous vineyards in the Columbia Valley. Flavors of plum, pomegranate, and strawberry are supported by crisp acidity, and velvety tannins. The palate is deep and layered, but above all showing a mouthwatering structure. The finish is sweet and perfectly reflects the marriage of Bordeaux and Rhone varietals.
  • Planted in 2003, this vineyard is a unique 92-acre site that rests above the flood plain of the Columbia River in the Wahluke Slope AVA. Under the topsoil is a 6-12 inch layer of caliche and basalt that creates a calcium- and iron-rich media that forces roots to struggle. Called Zinfandel in America, Primitivo in Italy, and delicious everywhere, this is a rich, dark, unctuous wine loaded with ripe briar berry fruits.
  • This is a voluptuous, lavishly textured Old Vine Zinfandel that reflects the temperate Mediterranean climate and sandy loam soils of the Lodi appellation. With its arresting fruit aromas, big berry and spice flavors and full-bodied profile, it will take your Zin obsession to a whole new level. Seductive aromas get your pulse racing; decadent jammy fruit flavors light your senses on fire. The voluptuous, saturating mouthfeel and lusty, satisfying finish will leave you begging for more!
  • This sparkling Shiraz from South Australia has a saturated, deep burgundy color with a crimson hue. An abundance of aromas include fresh black currant preserves, with dark strawberry and blackberry jam surrounded by underlying hints of butterscotch, menthol and spice. The palate is lively, refreshing and medium-bodied, with sweet berry fruits, ripe plums and cassis, hints of chocolate, molasses, caraway seed and fennel. There is a perlage of fine bubbles that lift the fruit and spice characters, ending with an attractive, long finish! Pair with the "Spinach and Raspberry Salad" from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!

September Featured Flight: Malbec Regions of Argentina

Argentina is currently the largest producer of Malbec in the world, and it is grown extensively in every wine region of the country, from Salta to Patagonia. Malbec expresses itself very well in regions with broad temperature ranges and calcareous, clayey or sandy soils such as those found at the foot of the Andes. These geographic and climatic features make Argentine Malbec stand out particularly for the quality of its tannins: sweet, silky and mouth-filling.

Salta (Northern Argentina)
The northern region of Salta is one with high altitude and plenty of sun. Malbec from this region expresses a unique personality: aromas of very ripe red and black fruits, black pepper and paprika, with a very solid structure of solid, sweet tannins. This Malbec is intense ruby red with great vivacity and violet notes. Red fresh fruits such as raspberry, strawberry and cherry combine with a spicy aroma given by the use of oak. This wine can be cellared up to four years.

Uco Valley, Mendoza (Central Argentina)
The province of Uco Valley is mountain-flanked in nearly every direction and dominated by miles upon miles of lush vineyards. The province harbors several of the country’s most highly reputed wineries, many of which offer biodynamic vineyards, award-winning architecture and design, and creative chef collaborations. Uco Valley dominates the country’s wine production, and their Malbecs are more elegant, with distinctive spicy and floral notes. This Malbec is a silky and delicate wine with wonderful depth of fruit and aromas of black fruits, black pepper, tangerine skin and flint. Superbly refined tannins deliver a sexy texture plus a bright and minerally finish.

Patagonia (Southern Argentina)
In Patagonia (Neuquén and Río Negro), the climate is slightly colder and altitudes are less extreme. This helps the grapes retain acidity, yielding wines with notes of ripe black fruits combined with a marked mineral tone. This Malbec is intense and bright red with violet tones. Aromas of red fruits, plums, and blueberries, with vanilla and some soft, spicy notes also present. Silky and ripe, this wine is fresh and balanced with an elegant and fruity finish.
