March Madness: "Americas Regional"

Week of March 12th, 2019

 

The excitement is in the air, as our 16th annual Wines by Jennifer® March Madness tournament is now underway!

White Wines

  • This Chilean winery is a partnership between an American family and two prominent Chilean winemaking legends. Fruit is hand-harvested from vines averaging 25 years of age. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Curico Valley is a delicate pale gold color. On the nose, aromas of lemon and fresh pineapple mingle with hints of lavender. Bright and well balanced, this wine has clean minerality and touch of lime on the finish.
  • Established in 1982, this Willamette Valley winery is the largest producer of certified estate wines made from Biodynamic® grapes in the country. This Pinot Gris emerges with aromatics of pear, Meyer lemon zest and fresh mint. It opens up on the palate with a silky and light texture on a foundation of stone fruits, melon and bright citrus balanced with zippy acidity.   • Fruit is sourced from Washington’s Columbia Valley, an area widely respected for beautiful and complex grapes. This Chardonnay is woven with tropical fruits complemented by a light touch of oak that adds just the right nuance and finesse. Nice on its own, or especially enjoyable with this week’s WBJ® Special Appetizer!

Red Wines

  • When this California producer started making wine with the 2005 vintage, all of the fruit came from Napa. Today, it also makes wine from grapes grown in other areas, but its Napa Valley Merlot remains its flagship. Loads of sweet fruit, cocoa and smoke aromas beckon you to take a sip, and the palate does not disappoint. Flavors of black licorice. currant, cassis and blackberry are complemented by solid acidity and well-integrated tannins.
  • The wine is produced by one of Lodi's most well-regarded wineries. Produced with fruit from vines averaging 35 years of age, this Syrah is a rich, deep color. With enormous density and complexity in the mouth, this tasty Lodi Syrah will definitely have you reaching for another glass!
  • Founded in 1988, the winery is one of the pioneers of Paso Robles. Their Zin has a rich and fruity nose that opens with black cherry, blackberry, nutmeg, and vanilla, leading into toffee, cigar, and cherrywood. On the palate, it is round and sumptuous, with layers of cherry, clove, and orange oil. Soft, ripe, and easy-to-drink, this Zinfandel is perfect with KC BBQ!
