March Madness: "Surviving Six"

Week of April 2nd, 2019

 

The excitement is in the air, as our 16th annual Wines by Jennifer® March Madness tournament is now underway!

White Wines

  • This Chilean winery is a partnership between an American family and two prominent Chilean winemaking legends. Fruit is hand-harvested from vines averaging 25 years of age. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Curico Valley is a delicate pale gold color. On the nose, aromas of lemon and fresh pineapple mingle with hints of lavender. Bright and well balanced, this wine has clean minerality and touch of lime on the finish.
  • Known locally as “Steen,” this South African Chenin Blanc shows peach, melon and pineapple aromas. Ripe fruit is tempered by finely balanced acidity to give a mouth-filling, yet refreshing, palate. This exceptionally versatile food wine pairs well with salads, vegetables, fish and chicken. The hint of sweetness and a slightly fuller body make it especially tasty alongside the “Spinach Artichoke Dip” from our Wines by Jennifer® Cookbook!
  • Located in the heart of Portugal’s Vinho Verde wine region, this family-owned winery has been making wines since 1870. This estate-grown blend of Loureiro (80%) and Alvarinho (20%) is bright and juicy in the mouth. Stone fruit flavors underlay floral scents of green fig and white grapefruit. Its maritime freshness will pair well with shrimp and asparagus.

Red Wines

  • This Pinot Noir is a blend from various parcels of fruit located in the winery's extensive estate vineyards in Marlborough. Smoky, dark fruit aromas are tinged with nutmeg. An early hit of strawberry and plum mix with brambly raspberry notes. The mid-palate introduces dried herbs and earth with a touch of caramel. Supple with good volume and persistence, try with a stir-fry of cubed lamb and eggplant.
  • Chianti Classico is the heartland of the Chianti wine region. It is the oldest and most traditional viticultural area where the blend by DOCG law must be a minimum of 80% Sangiovese. Riserva indicates the wine has spent a minimum of 24 months aging, of which three months must be in the bottle. Dark and fruit-forward, with a beautiful profile of ripe, succulent cherry fruit, it’s Tuscan sunshine in a bottle!
  • The wine is produced by one of Lodi's most well-regarded wineries. Produced with fruit from vines averaging 35 years of age, this Syrah is a rich, deep color. With enormous density and complexity in the mouth, this tasty Lodi Syrah will definitely have you reaching for another glass!
