Week of June 18th, 2019

White Wines

  • This Mâcon winemaker believes in respect of terroir, and that soil greatly affects the grapes. She strives to create a harmony between depth, complexity, minerality, and drinkability in her Chardonnay. Both floral and fruity on the nose, this steel barrel-aged Chardonnay is straight-forward on the palate, with a clean, pleasing finish.
  • Located just south of Vienna, the vineyards are ideally situated on a slope equidistant from the Danube River on one side and the Neusiedlersee on the other. Light and refreshing with balanced acidity and notes of strawberries and red cherries, this rosé wine is definitely a great starter or a drink-all-day wine! The blend of Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Pinot Noir produces a nicely acidic and fresh rosé style with aromas of strawberries and cherries.

Red Wines

  • Bourgueil is a sleepy commune situated on the right bank of the Loire River about midway between Angers and Tours. It is here where the signature grape of the area, Cabernet Franc, is produced to its apogee. The wine is classic Cab Franc, with bright pepper notes balanced by strawberry and earth.   • This South Australia producer rejects convention at every opportunity, doing whatever it takes to make the best wine possible. This non-conventional blend of Rhône-meets-Bordeaux is just the latest example. Red fruits abound, with good structure and a hint of tobacco and smoke that make for a most interesting wine!
  • This is a classic blend of the goodness of Washington wine country – Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah. The wine begins with aromatics of smoked brisket, black cherry and anise. Medium-weight flavors are reminiscent of red cherry, anise, red currant and black olive. Lithe and polished, this wine finishes with a silky smooth mouthfeel.
  • This Douro Valley red is done in a classic “port style” without the punch of added brandy spirits. A blend of Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional, aromas are of ripe red fruits such as prunes, strawberries, blackberries, and tobacco. Enhanced by round tannins that reflect balance and structure, the full-bodied palate yields soft and engaging richness that results in a fresh and persistent finish.
