Week of August 27th, 2019

White Wines

  • This blend of Muscat, Arneis and Cortese leads with intense floral and grapey notes from the Muscat, a wildly aromatic grape native to northern Italy. In this case, however, it’s grown on volcanic soils in Lake County, giving the wine a wonderful mineral drive. Arneis is another native Italian grape (here grown in Mendocino), and produces firmly structured, stony wines laden with minerality and herbal notes.
  • This historic winery in the Barolo region was founded in 1921. The blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier is vinified and matured in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, a process that preserves the fragrant aromatics, crisp acidity, and energizing texture. Red Wines

  • This 100% Barbera is born in the Bricco Manescotto vineyard in the Langhe village of La Morra. The high elevation, eastern exposure, and well-drained soil of this vineyard enhance the elegance of the wine. Vinification and aging in stainless steel produce a wine with elegant and expressive floral aromatics and high-toned texture perfectly balanced by harmonious and lively acidity.
  • The wine is a blend of Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Merlot from the younger vines of the estate. This "Super Piedmont" is brilliant ruby-red in color with purple hints. Fresh, expressive, and delicate aromas and flavors are primarily red cherries and spices. Light, supple and persistent, but with good structure, this is a delicious red which perfectly expresses the brightness of its youth.
  • Vino de Pago is the highest rung in the Spanish wine ladder, and is applied to specific vineyards or bodegas rather than geographic areas.This Vino de Pago is a full-bodied wine featuring dark plum, blackberry and baking spice, with herbal notes appearing in the mid-palate. A lingering menthol note and slightly sweet tannins add wonderful complexity.
  • Lodi is well known for its old Zinfandel vines, some over 100 years old. Gnarled and sculpted by time, they yield small amounts of fruit and create wines that are the ultimate expression of the terroir. The vines for this Ancient Vines Zinfandel are more than a half-century old, resulting in a powerful, deeply extracted wine bursting with bright blackberries and a dose of spice. Perfect for your next barbecue!
